He is author of the books Guiding People Through Grief: How to Start and Lead Bereavement Support Groups and Road to Emmaus: Pastoral Care with the Dying and Bereaved. He has written nearly 100 articles, pamphlets, and other educational resources dealing with bereavement--for professionals and grieving people alike.

Overview
Abusive relationships pose a unique grief challenge for survivors. Conflicted feelings about the death, family secrets, ambivalence I relationships, and the push from outsiders to "leave the past in the past" all can make this kind of bereavement extraordinarily complicated.

Bringing more than 25 years of professional counseling experience with bereaved individuals and families, Dr. Bill Hoy has walked alongsideĀ  more than a few people who aren't quite sure how they SHOULD--or more importantly how they NEED-- to grieve. Whether the death has already occurred or the abuser is dying, we will discuss death of the perpetrator, death of protectors, and death of the dream for an ideal relationship, all with practical, proven strategies for intervention.

Opinions expressed are those of the speaker and not necessarily those of the Council and its membership.
