May Program Agenda

We will start with a fishbowl activity to gain a greater understanding of LGBTQ issues followed by a discussion.  We will then review terminology in order to understand the differences between sexual orientation, sexual and gender identity and gender expression.  We will wrap up with the nuances for LGBTQ clients in the DV field.

Rev. Dr. Kimberlee Woods has been an educator for over twenty years and is currently the Executive Director of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Greater Long Beach.  She has worked in both the public and private sector and has volunteered for numerous local non-profit agencies.  In her early years, she acted as the volunteer and outreach coordinator for WINGS in West Covina and did volunteer training for Rainbow Services in the South Bay.  She wrote her dissertation on identity development amongst LGBTQ college students and brings a unique perspective regarding domestic violence issues among same gender couples.  Her interactive style is engaging and thought provoking.  In the last few years, Kimberlee has received various awards for her work in the community including, Lambda Democratic Club Woman of the Year, 27th Senatorial District Woman of the Year, and Female Community Grand Marshal with Long Beach Pride.
