Kinship families consist of grandparents, birth parents and children, each with its own unique needs and interests to be met. Census data suggests that kinship families are becoming more prevalent within our society. What are the unique challenges experienced by these families? What services can be provided to assist them? This presentation will explain the dynamics of kinship families with a special emphasis on the strengths and needs of the grandparents, birth parents and children involved. It will also provide suggestions for working with kinship families based on empirical research.
