Program: Elder Abuse

Speaker: Rita S. Jennings,  LBPD, Senior Police Partner

This presentation by Rita S. Jennings will provide important information about the types and signs of elder abuse, as well as information about self-abuse by seniors. Attendees to this presentation will hear case examples, and will be provided with handouts, a copy of an issue of Senior Community Newsletter that focuses on elder abuse, and an elder abuse resource directory.

Mrs. Rita S. Jennings, currently a volunteer with the Long Beach Police Department as a Senior Police Partner, has made educating others about elder abuse her "personal mission". In addition to having completed training with the Long Beach Police Department, Mrs. Jennings also has a B.S. in International Business from CSU Long Beach.

Mrs. Jennings is also a retired banker with First Interstate Bank, formerly UCB, now Wells Fargo Bank, where she often represented the bank in court cases involving fraud and various scams. In addition to other volunteer duties, Mrs. Jennings created and writes the Senior Community Newsletter, a quarterly newsletter that informs seniors of current scams and frauds aimed at seniors, crime and security alerts, safety issues, and disaster preparation for seniors.

Mrs. Jennings was born in Germany and lived in Italy for a few years before immigrating to the United States. Mrs. Jennings considers the day she became an American citizen her second birthday. Mrs. Jennings' other interests include cheering for her grandchildren at gymnastics competitions, visiting gardens and Yosemite National Park with her husband, growing roses and spoiling her two cats.

Opinions expressed are those of the speaker and not necessarily those of the Council and its membership.
