Nathan Swaringen, LCSW

The Guidance Center Nathan Swaringen

In appreciation of your commitment to model and teach trauma-informed, innovative programming, greatly benefiting at-risk Long Beach Youth.

Nathan Swaringen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at The Guidance Center, currently working as developer and program coordinator of "It’s About T.I.M.E."(Trauma Informed Movement in Education), providing trauma-informed training and consultation to schools in the Long Beach Unified School District. Nathan is trained in The Neurosequential Model in Education through The Child Trauma Academy. Nathan was previously a school-based therapist at The Guidance Center, with over 12 years of experience as a clinician, working with at risk youth and their families. Nathan has provided many trainings in the Southern California area on the topics of trauma, play therapy, The Neurosequential Model in Education, and attachment.

Tim Varvais, M.A., M.S.

Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services Tim Varvais

In appreciation of two decades of service for passionately protecting abused children, working with their families to promote healthy change, and promoting strength based social work practice in Los Angeles County.

Tim Varvais has served our community for 20 years at DCFS, starting as a nurse, and then a therapist and child welfare social worker. As a Social Worker, Supervisor and now Assistant Administrator in the South County/Lakewood Department of Children & Family Services office, he demonstrates a passion for protecting children and working with families to bring change into their lives. He is firmly committed to promoting a strength-based social work practice in Los Angeles County. He is highly collaborative and treasured throughout the area as a liaison and problem solver for agencies interfacing with the Department. Children are safer with Tim serving the community.
